Our dance classes help students develop dance skills across all levels—whether you want to learn salsa in a group setting or take ballet, we’ve got the perfect course for you. During registration, our staff helps identify your goals and provides you with all the information you need to make sure your experience at Joe’s is a step in the right direction.

And don’t forget: committed students are often invited to participate in festivals, competitions, and recitals! Those performances are a great way for friends and family to see how our students are always learning and growing at Joe’s.

2

Foundation

This level emphasizes sustained movement, choreography, dance terms, and the discipline of dance. Students will increase their energy and stamina and learn the importance of performance quality.

3

Choreology/Texture

Students work on balance, stretching, and conditioning while continuing to learn choreography and further dance tools. This level expands dance vocabulary and introduces different styles within a given dance genre. Students are also introduced to live music in order to prepare them for dancing to live bands.

4

Mastery Level

Students begin mastering techniques of each genre they've studied. This level introduces major choreographers and styles within each genre and culminates in a performance accompanied by live music.

Genres

Jazz

Jazz will focus on taking ballet technique and morphing it into something more aggressive and uptempo. Students will be introduced to different jazz styles, such as Fosse and educated on various Broadway musicals. It is suggested you take Tap along with Jazz.

Hip-Hop

Hip-Hop is a fast, high energy type of dance seen in music videos and commercials. Examples would include performances by artists such as Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake and Jennifer Lopez.

Tap

Tap and step requires a great deal of coordination and can be challenging styles of dance. Between the ages of 6-8 years old, we teach traditional tap in our tap classes. Ages 9 and older can participate in street tap and step, which is a funky, hip-hop inspired style.

Liturgical

Liturgical dance is a type of dance movement incorporated into liturgies or worship services as an expression of worship. This dance may either be spontaneous, or have been choreographed ahead of time.

Contemporary

Contemporary dance lessons allow free expression and continues to be well-loved by many for its lack of boundaries. Students will learn self-expression through abstract movement.

Ballet

The “grades” of ballet follow different age levels than public school grades. Our staff will happily assist in selecting the proper dance class for your student. We also offer recreational ballet for teens who have not taken ballet as a child but wish to learn without following a syllabus.
